Tuesday, March 24, Tadeusz Konwicki: Finnish translation and introduction by Taisto Veikko. Pawlikowski has been, though, influenced rather by Bresson, the young Godard, and the Czech New Wave. But interestingly the first work in Pawlikowski’s filmography is Palace Lifea television documentary on Konwicki.
A Dreambook for Our Time by Tadeusz Konwicki
Tadeusz Konwicki was a first class writer. Two of his books were translated into Finnish in the distinguished Keltainen kirjasto series of the Tammi publishing house: It is a strong Modernistic piece perhaps a little reminiscent of Hiroshima, mon amour, but completely original.
Having read Konwicki obituaries I know now a little about the shattering first hand experiences that brought a sense of urgency to Konwicki’s books and films. Konwicki was a film director and also wennik important screenwriter and an inspiring background figure who provided ideas to key films of the Polish New Wave. A Dreambook for Our Time its Finnish title in direct translation: A Polish Dreambook is the first Konwicki book I have read.
He returns to the terrain of the guerrilla warfare in the village that is about to be flooded as a huge dam is being built. The partisans had first fought Nazis and then the Soviets. Konqicki of them are rumoured still to hide in the forest, and, indeed, still are. This is not a heroic adventure story. Seventeen years later he is still jonwicki to the point of attempting suicide because he had been assigned to execute a traitor among the partisans.
He shot but did not kill. He fails to act with Regina who would be interested. There are many layers in the narrative. One of them is the association of the Twelve Apostles and Maria Magdalena among the partisans.
A Dreambook for Our Time is a harrowing but persuasive story. It is a story of brutalization but also of a triumph of the spirit. It is an account of a nightmare but also of waking up.
I cannot read Polish but it is easy to believe that Taisto Veikko also a translator of Andrzejewski, Gombrowicz, and Kolakowski has done a fine job of kownicki here.
The Finnish edition has been printed during the golden age of Finnish book publishing from the s till the s when they knew the secret of the perfect layout for a book that also as an object is a wspolcczesny to read. Wspolczesnj of the ‘cinema d’auteur’ in Poland and author of 20 books. Konwicki’s literary and cinematic legacy serves as both the conscience of Polish society and the skewed mirror in which it is reflected.
He is among those writers who have left the most lasting impression on post-war Polish literature and culture, regarded as a spokesman for the dreams, hopes and konaicki of several generations of Poles. These works, which are among Konwicki’s most beautiful, evoke the region around Vilnius as a land of the coming-of-age and of an initiation into the meaning of life, of learning about love and death, a land where feelings are born and where a reconciliation with existence – a Faustian acceptance of duration – occurs.
The portrait of contemporaneity, of a sterile region and acid-etched time, is most intense in Konwicki’s series of novels that includes A Dreambook for Our TimeAscension Into Heaven and Nothing or Nothing They share an analysis of social memory that contains the evils of war and Stalinism, as well as the swnnik of a protagonist konwiccki is first unable to accept his own identity because it contains feelings of guilt, and then is unable to establish that identity because his way is blocked by the disconnect between himself and the present.
That present is Konwicki’s vision of a police state in which the population, under constant surveillance, slowly loses its contours and collapses into a shapeless mass. This image is further developed in koonwicki next literary period, which includes the best-known works of literature to be published outside the purview of state censorship: Konwicki’s direct engagement with social issues grew steadily after the publication of Nothing or Nothing, but this engagement was counter-balanced by a series of “lying journals” that belonged neither to the realm of politics nor wepolczesny.
Antti Alanen: Film Diary: Tadeusz Konwicki: Sennik współczesny / A Dreambook for Our Time (a novel)
They cannot be read either as pure fiction or non-fiction, and are very diverse in terms of genre and aesthetics. Their freedom, charm, wit and wide-ranging humour make them, like Gombrowicz’s Diaries, true literary gems that are often imitated. I write above all for the reader, with the intention of giving pleasure, amusing, stunning or destroying.
It is impossible to write without another person. His memories of the Vilnius Region where he grew up paint a picture of a place that has not changed much since the time of Mickiewicz, at least in terms of civilization and culture.
Just before the war, Konwicki began to attend the Wapolczesny Zygmunt August secondary school in Vilnius, where he studied for a year. After the war broke out he continued his studies through underground courses, passing his matriculation exams in He escaped from forced labour clearing konwwicki forest and went to work in a German army hospital for “volunteers”.
A Dreambook for Our Time (Writers from the Other Europe)
In the autumn, after a period of hiding at a farm near Vilnius, he returned once more to the partisans, which were already anti-Bolshevik. The group hid kkonwicki the woods until the end of April. In May,Konwicki and a few friends used falsified documents to cross the new Polish border in order to make contact with local partisan groups, but it became impossible to keep fighting.
Konwicki started to work on former German properties in Gliwice, and after a few months he went to Cracow where he started to study Polish literature at Jagiellonian University. Konwicki got a job as a proofreader for the Odrodzenie monthly and he soon started working as a reporter and graphic artist for Dziennik Polski, publishing “Sketches from the Coast”. He was promoted at Odrodzenie and began writing reviews of new books and films, as well as drawing and technical editing.
When the monthly moved to the ruined city of Warsaw, Konwicki moved with it. Konwicki’s first novel, Rojsty, which was similar to his first partisan stories in its bitterly ironic tone, would not be published in because of censorship the book would appear only inand then it included many changes by the censors.
Despite the fact that the book does not mythologize the anti-Soviet partisans in the Vilnius region, and despite the fact that it settles scores with imperial patriotic ideology and has obvious links with the romantic tradition, the novel was stopped because of the very fact that it talks about the Vilnius Uprising.
The same happened to Konwicki’s second novel, New Days. Like all his works, it contains many autobiographical sections and follows the hero who not long ago fought the Red Army as he matures into an acceptance of the idea of socialism. Time of “the pimpled” Konwicki’s first book was a socialist-realist story called, At the Building Site, written after his experience of working at Nowa Huta October – March Over the next few years Konwicki worked as a committed writer and journalist, belonging to a group known as “the pimpled”.
Inhe joined the Communist Party.
By that time he was already working on proof-copies of The Power, a political, existential and multi-layered novel about the difficulties of establishing a new system in a country, and about young people from different political camps who have to make complicated ideological choices.
The novel reveals the so-called right-wing deviation, argues for the communist cause and urges belief in the slogans disseminated by the founders of the new system.
Nevertheless, the novel wasn’t published until the beginning ofby which time Konwicki, although still faithful to socialist ideas, was beginning to be sceptical of dogmatic restrictions and pro-regime propaganda. This skepticism is noticeable in two of Konwicki’s books: The Hour of Sadness, which deals mainly with the problem of love and marital infidelity a subject almost unimaginable at that timeand From the Besieged City, about an intelligent man who flees abroad because he cannot stand the constant ideological intrusion into his private life.
In both books Konwicki clearly defends the right to self-determination, to intimacy and to the mere possibility of ideological doubt. The first book was published during the second half ofalthough the following January it was severely criticized at a meeting of the Basic Party Organization at the Polish Writers’ Union as described by Leopold Tyrmand in his Diary Konwicki’s second novel was published only during the thaw inunder quite different circumstances.
Sucker’s scowl October of opened a new chapter in Konwicki’s work. Those who ideologically moulded me in some way, who instructed me, who were teaching me [ Were you so naive? What seems to be a charming book for young people about children from the pre-war Vilnius Region is, in truth, a story about disillusionment and shattered ideals. The world of Polek Krywko, the main character, is destroyed when his friends make fun of him because of his naive belief in mysterious people for whom everybody is waiting.
He also shares his feelings in the diary of a strange man who hangs himself when he loses his grasp on the meaning of life. This “diary of a hanged man” is a surprising break from the fluent traditional narration of The Hole in the Sky, and it cannot be logically explained.
This part of the book signals the beginning of Konwicki’s artistic drift towards surrealism. What is more, in the “diary” we can see something that was recognized and defined by Tadeusz Lubelski, the most eminent scholar of Konwicki’s work: This is one of the masterpieces of post-war Polish literature, suggestive psychological prose with differentiated narration and a “story within a story” that illustrates the generational experiences of wartime and difficult post-war choices.
A Dreambook for Our Times acquired a cult following, not only among Polish readers but also in Russia. The novel has several parts.
The retrospectives cover crucial moments of his life, mainly those related to anti-German and later anti-Soviet partisans.
This was discovered by Jan Walc, the author of the first Ph. Nevertheless Walc warns against disregarding the book’s contemporary story. The novel is not only an analysis of past and historical experience but also a portrait of a modern man lost in a world without axioms, of a man besieged by ideologies and forced to constantly choose. Only love Konwicki himself participated in a discussion with critics who did not see or did not want to see that A Dreambook is actually about the present time.
He did so through his next novel, entitled Ascensionwhich was ostentatiously contemporary. In it, the main character wakes up one evening and cannot remember who he is. Incidentally, many aspects of the “afterlife” that emerges from the reality of Warsaw bears a striking resemblance to the Vilnius Region.
The hero-narrator, known among his friends as Charon, tries to overcome his amnesia by constructing the supposed story of his life. The story is yet another panorama of the experiences of Konwicki’s generation, a feature that is often present in his work.
Through his “memory exercises” the hero recalls the things he thinks are the most important or timeless, the things he wants to save. He has philosophical thoughts about a river, a forest and the sky. The enduring value that emerges from his murky adventures, which end at the top of Warsaw’s Palace of Culture, is love.
Ascension is a legendary book, not least because it is a novel with a political double meaning. Konwicki shows Polish reality as a totalitarian world the writer would soon be crossed off the list of Party members. The legend of the book was made even more powerful by the story of its publication – the authorities considered it scandalous, and it was only allowed a few reviews and limited distribution. Many literary critics and historians consider this novel to be Konwicki’s most outstanding work of prose.
Anti-fables for adults and children This focus on contemporary times is also visible in Konwicki’s next novels, The Anthropos-Spectre-Beast and Nothing or Nothing These are extremely gloomy books, showing the hopelessness of everyday life after Marchthe anti-intellectual witch-hunts and the disgraceful anti-Semitic propaganda that resulted in the mass emigration of Jewish Poles.
The first book is actually about Marchalthough it was supposedly written for young children and is illustrated with Danuta Konwicka’s pictures along with many jokes and adventures. The Anthropos-Spectre-Beast is a story of a boy from Warsaw who, together with konwickii dog Sebastian, travels to the pre-war Vilnius Region. But in among the colourful adventures, the reader discovers hints that monwicki hero is actually a little boy dying in a hospital.
The theme of death in a book for children makes Konwicki one of the precursors of the anti-fable trend in literature for young people.

Fractures of the distal radius Colles’ fracture. Although Colles’ fracture is a common clinical situation for the orthopedist, we did not find any information in the literature that would allow safe decision-making on the best treatment for each fracture type.
The aim of the present study was to investigate Brazilian orthopedists’ opinions regarding the main aspects of treatments for Colles’ fracture.
Cross-sectional study conducted during the 34 th Brazilian Congress of Orthopedics and Traumatology. Five hundred questionnaires containing 12 items were randomly distributed to orthopedists who were attending the congress; were filled out correctly and were considered in this study.
The main factors in making decisions on interventions in fracture cases were whether the fracture was intra-articular, the existence of shortening of the distal radius and the patient’s age. The classification method most used was Frykmann. The closed reduction method most used was manual reduction.
Fratjra of the interviewees only used bone grafts for osseous gaps in special cases. The most frequent complications were impairment of joint mobility and residual pain. Brazilian orthopedists have concordant opinions regarding conservative treatment methods and the use of bone grafts. There were conflicting opinions regarding surgical treatment methods, classification types and complications.
O objetivo deste estudo foi verificar a conduta dos ortopedistas brasileiros quanto aos principais aspectos do tratamento das fraturas de Colles. Although fractures of the distal extremity of the radius were first described by Colles intoday there is still frwtura robust scientific evidence to allow a definitive treatment algorithm to be devised. This is because of the complexity of these fractures with regard to patient type, associated lesions, trauma mechanisms and the several classification methods used.
We found in the literature a great number of papers on the several types and methods for treating these fractures, but without any definitions regarding the best treatment option for each fracture type. Among the publications presenting better levels of frahura, four systematic reviews of randomized clinical trials can be highlighted. These studies concluded that collfs was no evidence that would allow decision-making regarding the best treatment, anesthesia and rehabilitation methods for each type of fracture of the distal radius.
They recommended that new studies of good methodological quality should be conducted in order to supply better evidence for making decisions on the most appropriate treatment.
There is still a great need to shorten the time taken for reintegrating patients into their habitual activities. There are also growing ethical and legal demands for cosmetic and functional results for patients. To investigate how the orthopedists attending the 34 th Brazilian Congress of Orthopedics and Traumatology were treating Colles’ fracture.
The participants filled out a questionnaire that had been drawn collse previously, in which there were 12 objective multiple-choice questions that dealt with matters of relevance to treating Colles’ fracture. The population was assumed to be infinite, because not every orthopedist attending the congress could be included in the target sample.
Therefore, the sample size calculation was not related to volles total number of participants. Thus, questionnaires were distributed randomly, during the lectures and talks of the congress. After immediate completion by the physician, the questionnaire was identified with a sequential number and filed.
A total of questionnaires were filled out correctly and were included in this study. The text of the questionnaire was as follows our free translation from Portuguese: The purpose of this questionnaire is to investigate Brazilian orthopedists’ diagnostic and therapeutic methods, complications and results relating to clinical approaches to fractures of the distal radius.
We kindly request your assistance by completing the items below. Only take into consideration fractures of the distal radius in patients over 40 years old, except for cases of fractures caused by avulsion and Barton’s fracture. Yes, in all surgical treatments. Colles’ fracture is one of the most common among older white people. Most fractures of the distal radius result from low-energy trauma, such as falls from no more than the individual’s own standing height, and their greater incidence among women reflects the loss of bone mass due to osteoporosis and the larger number of falls suffered by older women.
Although Colles’ fracture is a common clinical situation for the orthopedist, we did not find in the literature elements that would allow safe decision-making regarding the best treatment for each fracture type. However, over the last decade, collee scientific studies have been published, thus providing some evidence for treating these fractures.
In drawing up this questionnaire, we only dealt with Colles’ fractures, i. The objective was to evaluate the main features of treating these fractures, and also the most frequent complications and the prognosis. It is stated in the literature that the degree of restoration of the articular alignment is the main prognostic factor for the fracture; 7,8 that the radial shortening that is seen on X-rays is considered rfatura be one of the main elements denoting instability of the fracture; 9,10 and that clles patient’s age reflects his or her potential for bone loss instability.
Although the Frykmann classification is very widely used, it does not supply the minimum backing necessary for planning the treatment, 11 since it essentially only supplies morphological data on the fracture and thus is not a recommended method. In the systematic review “Conservative interventions for treating distal radial fractures in adults”, 2 in which 33 randomized trials analyzed patients, there were descriptions of several studies comparing different conservative treatment methods, consisting of both external splintage plaster of Paris casts, braces and bandages and immobilization above or below elbow, in supination, pronation or neutral positions, with palmar flexion or dorsiflexion.
It was concluded that there was not enough evidence to decide which conservative treatment method was more appropriate for each type of fracture of the distal radius. In the systematic review: There was no conclusive evidence on the best anesthesia method in relation to effectiveness, safety and influence on fracture reduction.
However, some of the evidence indicated that local anesthesia hematoma block produced worse analgesia than did intravenous regional anesthesia, and thus it hinders fracture reduction. There is no evidence favoring one method for closed reduction over another.
A randomized trial published in compared the reduction methods of manual manipulation and finger-trap traction, among patients with fractures. It was shown that there was no statistically colels difference between these two reduction methods. In the systematic review “Surgical interventions for treating distal radial fractures in adults”, 1 with 44 randomized trials and patients, it was concluded that there was not enough evidence for most of the decisions needed for surgically treating fractures of the distal radius.
Nonetheless, there was fratkra favorable evidence supporting the use of external fixation and percutaneous pinning.
There were no significant differences in complications between conservative and surgical interventions. Residual pain and impaired joint mobility were the most frequent complications in both treatment types Figures 8 and 9. Instability of the distal radioulnar joint was the associated injury that was most frequently diagnosed Figure Among the complications from conservative intervention were residual pain, impaired joint mobility, malunion of the fracture and reflex sympathetic dystrophy.
The most frequent complications from surgical treatment were related to plate synovitis, adhesions, infection and reflex sympathetic dystrophy. There was no conclusive evidence in the literature regarding any correlation between the treatment method used surgical or conservative treatment and higher frequency of any specific type of complication. There was a consensus between most of the interviewees regarding collew following aspects of treating fractures of the distal radius: There were conflicting opinions, without consensus, regarding the following: Given the results from the present study and the best evidence from the literature, we conclude that there is no scientific evidence powerful enough to allow definitive conclusions concerning the main aspects of managing distal radius fractures.
Trials using carefully designed methodology should be conducted in the future, in order to obtain high-quality fratua regarding classification systems, best methods for conservative and surgical treatment and criteria for defining instability patterns. The chemical compound 1,2-dichloroethane commonly known as ethylene dichloride EDCis a chlorinated hydrocarbon.
It is a colourless liquid with a chloroform -like odour. The most common use of 1,2-dichloroethane is in the production of vinyl chloridewhich is used to make polyvinyl chloride PVC pipes, furniture and automobile upholstery, wall coverings, housewares, and automobile parts. It forms azeotropes with many other solventsincluding water b. Society of Dutch Chemistswere the first to produce 1,2-dichloroethane from olefiant gas oil-making gas, ethylene and chlorine gas.
Part of that acknowledgement is that 1,2-dichloroethane was called “Dutch oil” in old chemistry. Nearly 20 million tons of 1,2-dichloroethane are produced in the United StatesWestern Europeand Japan. VCM is the precursor to polyvinyl chloride. The hydrogen chloride can be re-used in the production of more 1,2-dichloroethane via the oxychlorination route described above.
As a good polar aprotic solvent1,2-dichloroethane could be used as degreaser and paint remover but is now banned from use due to dichloridw toxicity and possible carcinogenity. As a useful ‘building block’ reagent, it is used as an intermediate in the production of various organic compounds such as ethylenediamine. In the laboratory it is occasionally used dichloridr a source of chlorinewith elimination of ethene and chloride.

Via several steps, 1,2-dichloroethane is a precursor to 1,1,1-trichloroethanewhich is used in dry cleaning. Historically, 1,2-dichloroethane was used as an anti-knock additive in leaded fuels to scavenge lead from cylinders and valves preventing buildup. Its high solubility and year half-life in anoxic aquifers make it a perennial pollutant and health risk that is very expensive to treat conventionally, msd a method of bioremediation.
Dioxolane and toluene are possible substitutes as solvents. Dichloroethane is unstable in the presence of aluminium metal and, when moist, with zinc and iron.

Sound can be described with various physical parameters e. These parameters are very limited to describe the perception of the human ear. A first 4631 is to take into account that the ear is less sensitive at lower and higher frequencies.
The research work around from Barkhausen result into the well known A,B,C weighting curves.
The frequency response of the ear depends on the sound level, that is the reason 54631 different curves, which are valid for a certain level only. A pure sine at lower levels e. However, in practice sine tones are not very common. For complex sounds and noise, this simple model is not valid anymore.
ISO 532 B / DIN 45631 Loudness
In most sound pressure meters available today you will find these techniques, because they are easily to derive from the physical parameters. A wideband noise has a different subjective loudness than a pure tone at the same level measured in dB A. Therefore, dB A is very limited in its usage although widely used.
Zwicker analyzed various psychoacoustics effects thoroughly. A result was a model for the human hearing. A famous psychoacoustics 45361 is acoustical masking.
A loud tone hides quiet tones. Nobody would expect to hear the sound of a mouse during a symphonic orchestra, although the mouse would audible in quiet phases. A very famous application of this and other effects are audio compression techniques like MP3.
Loudness measurement in sone (DIN 45631 ISO 532B)
Only parts of the signal, which are audible according to a model, are stored. Based on its countless hearing tests, Zwicker developed a model for loudness measured in sone. For stationary signals you will achieve much better results than the traditional dB A. In contrast to dB A sone is a linear parameter.
Two sone has double loudness compared to one sone. The reference level is one sone, which is equivalent to a tone with 1kHz at a level of 40dB.
As mentioned previously, sone is valid for stationary signals only. It is ideally in the judgment of air conditioners or typical PC noise like hard disks of fans. This measurement describes the subjective loudness.
However, it does not allow distinguishing between nice or annoying tones.
Most people will agree that the sound of a flute is much nicer than a drill used by dentist although they both might have dln same loudness. In addition, you have to calibrate the system.
All psycho acoustic analysis requires absolute sound levels. This can be achieved with a sound calibrator or a sound pressure meter. A complete measurement system for sone contains the following components:.
Many sone measurements include analysis of low noise devices e. The normal measurement distance is 1m. You can only perform a reliable measurement if the signal level is above the noise. The noise includes acoustic noise from the environment and noise in the measurement chain from the microphone or preamplifier.
In a normal office environment at a quiet noise level of 45dBA it is impossible to analyze a fan with 25dBA. Since the human ear is very sensitive, such measurements require high quality measurement equipment. For every measurement, we strongly recommend to measure the quiet noise first.
Simply switch off the measurement device. The optimum measurement environment is a special anechoic chamber, which reduces reflections and noise from outside. We strongly recommend switching off noise sources if possible windows, air-condition, computers etc. Many measurement microphones have a sensitivity of 30dB, which defines the lower bound for measurements.
You can improve the measurement sensitivity by reducing the measurement distance from 1m to e. This increases the signal level by 12dB. This offset can be corrected with a different calibration factor, which allows WinAudioMLS to show the measurements results with respect to 1m.
Loudness measurement in sone (DIN ISO B)
By reducing the distance to the half, the level increases by 6dB. With a distance of 25cm the correction factor is 12dB. If you use a dun level calibrator with 94dB, the reference level has to set to 82dB.
A sound level of 82dB will be displayed as 94dB. This approximation is only valid in the far-field with spherical radiation. In the near-field you will encounter e. Therefore, we strongly recommend documenting this different measurement distance clearly, because it is difficult to compare different measurement distances.

The tale seems to begin with buried treasure and then turns into an unprecedented historical detective story – a modern Grail quest leading back through cryptically coded parchments, secret societies, the Knights Templar, the Cathar heretics of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and a dynasty of obscure French kings deposed more than 1, years ago. This was my second time reading “Holy Blood Holy Grail” Having been brought up in a Baptist church a lot of whats in this book goes against my up bringing. However, I always look at both sides of a coin before jumping into a track, so to speak. I find it hard to believe that a man as loving, and giving as Jesus is said to be, would not give his love also to a women.

I’ve since become agnostic; however, talking and reading about religion is always intriguing to me.
If Jesus was indeed a human, I feel that there is no way that he didn’t have relationships with women. See all 3 questions about Der Heilige Gral und seine Erben…. Lists with This Book. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. I originally approached the book with the idea that even if the “history” was wonky, it will be entertaining to read.
I was sorely disappointed.
Wolfgang Wiedergut Der heilige Gral und seine Erben
It was uphill all the way, especially in the middle, when you get bogged down in all those dynasties. However, I’m giving it two stars for the chapters towards the end. The speculations in there have given the myth-lover in me have one more go at the Bible, and the enigmatic figure of the Christ.
A boring book with some entertaining specu I originally approached the book with the idea that even if the “history” was wonky, it will be entertaining to read. A boring book with some entertaining speculations. Reading this book is like slogging uphill through a mudslide – after a while you lose track of where you are, and it doesn’t seem worth the effort to keep going.
This is book is a great example of academic dishonesty. The first half of the book is very well documented, and sets grao reader up for the idea that the two authors are dealing with hard facts. When the conjectures and meat of the umd begin though the sources stop getting cited, and assumptions are made which have no basis except for the authors fantastical logic.
Saying things like, of course this is well documented but where? Not that I’m shocked by their more controversial conjectures, or find the ideas contained in this book as absurd, just that they do a grave misjustice to erbenn readers trust in the way they present the information. Probably the oldest surviving piece of hot gossip still in circulation: Jesus had an affair with Mary Magdalene, which resulted in a child.
Members of the post-Dan-Brown generation may have trouble believing this, but I hadn’t heard a single rumour before I read def book.

This book should be under fiction instead of religion, as the conspiracy put forth in it is so obviously a bunch of hookum that anyone who actually reads the book should be able to see that their sole source is playing them for reasons that never become clear. This is the sort of book that brings out the worst sort of conspiracy nuts — those who will believe it because they want it to be true, not because there is actual proof or overwhelming evidence that it true.
It is worth reading ONLY if y This book should be under fiction instead of religion, as the conspiracy put forth in it is so obviously a bunch of hookum that anyone who actually dder the book should be able to grxl that their heiluge source is playing them for reasons that never become clear.
In fact, the authors of this book sued Brown for copyright infringement or plaigarism because their theory makes up such a big part of his book; they lost because the courts said if it was true as these authors claimyou can not copyright truth.
They might have had a better case if they had marketed this as the fiction it is, but then it would not still be in print after all these years, appealing to ind generations of conspiracy nuts. I happen to believe there are conspiracies, just not this one.
This book reads like a train and is tensing, undoubtedly its a good novel. And that’s the only thing it really is. It pretends to be serious documented but all of its claims are very speculative drawn on insufficient research or misinterpretations of material.
It connects the most superstitious conspiracytheories with popular research on early Christianity. The theological “secrets” seiine the Vatican the book reveals and which created a buzz in the media are not original at all and are popular reinterpretations of heresies from early Christianity. No wonder the Church didn’t even respond on this book: I picked this up after I read the Da Vinci Code and now I can see why this book did not get much press. As everyone is aware this book is the basis for Grla Browns Da Vinci Code and so it gal well worth reading if you like conspiracy theories.
Of course, it’s theories and what the author alleges are interesting enough but it’s erebn SO hard to get through. It’s is not structured like a suspense novel so there is no draw. There’s too much suspicions with out facts or hard evidence to back up claims. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here.
I thought this book sounded interesting, but after finding out the book is based on a lie and bad research I couldn’t even wrben the book. Nov 01, Michel B. I loved the premise.
Some really interesting elements. Yes, just as there is a fair amount of proven material, there is also a lot that seemed unsubstantiated.
Der Heilige Gral by Lincoln (Paperback, ) | eBay
Felt that it never clearly made its point. View aeine 3 comments. It took me almost a year to finish this book, and for good reason.
It’s dense material, especially for someone like myself who doesn’t have any background in Christianity, biblical history, etc. It was easy to get sucked into some parts and lose track of others.
Many of the other heiloge the book tries to make are very circumstantial, and the authors admit this readily themselves! They are the first ones rrben make note of the fact that some of the “proof” they are offering up is not actually proof at all, or that everything they are noting is, in fact, a theory and nothing else.
It’s a good way to cover your bases, but it’s tiresome to read a few hundred pages of “maybes. Trying to read it without that is like trying to read medicinal research while simultaneously trying to understand basic scientific concepts. My first foray into audio book for a while. I was on the drive from Napier-Auckland and return in the truck with Bex last night 6pm-8am.

Jeilige want to highlight and make notes in the margins and doh, they’re aren’t any! I’d have to straight up say I didn’t enjoy this. I get unr the book is set up the way it is. Heipige first two thirds are spent tracing bloodlines and land ownership, building up a case to support the conclusion the authors present in the final third of the book.
The last third is a fairly breezy read, but there are no surprises to be found this long after it’s publication. I’m a huge history fan especially when the Templars are involved. But this book got deep and I’d get lost in their details. I’d forget what they were trying to prove even.
Would not recommend this – at least to the casual reader. If you are researching – maybe. There are some sentences here, repeated exactly the same way in “The Da Vinci Code”.
Der Heilige Gral und seine Erben
If you ujd interested in conspiracy theories only then you’ll like this. This book has been published even before I was born, so why read after more the 2 decades, specially after “The Priory of Sion” myth was debunked by journalists and scholars as one the great hoaxes of the 20th century?
Well, Heilife just happened to come across the book. I found it to be poorly argued. I expected better arguments. I did read the book rather quickly but skipped a lot in the second part regarding “the Priory of Zion”.

Take the lint filter out and wash it with a soft bristle brush and warm soapy water. If the door seal and the front and rear drum seals are okay then the venting system is likely at fault.
In order to know if the venting system is at fault, disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer and dry one load of clothes. The exhaust temperature should average degrees when set on High heat.
